Two arrested over grenade attacks

KIGALI - Police have arrested two suspects following Friday evening’s grenade attacks that killed one person and injured 30. The simultaneous attacks took place in three different parts of the city and targeted late evening commuters because they all took place at taxi stands; Kwa Rubangura, Chez Venant and Nyabugogo taxi park.

KIGALI - Police have arrested two suspects following Friday evening’s grenade attacks that killed one person and injured 30.

The simultaneous attacks took place in three different parts of the city and targeted late evening commuters because they all took place at taxi stands; Kwa Rubangura, Chez Venant and Nyabugogo taxi park.

The deceased was identified as Eric Twagiramungu, 23, who comes from Huye. The injured were taken to three different hospitals in Kigali.

"Five of the injured remain in serious condition while the rest have been discharged,” reads a police statement.
The attackers are yet to be fully identified but two suspects are being held by the National Police.” 

"This is an exceptional incident and maintaining security remains our top priority,” said Emmanuel Gasana, the Commissioner General of Police.

"We ask residents to remain calm as we continue to closely follow up the situation.

We will continue to inform the public as more information becomes available”.
