NYAGATARE - Parents in Rwimiyaga sector, Nyagatare district have resolved to reopen Kirebe springs of Knowledge Nursery and Primary School, a former government school which was closed for lack of teachers.

‘We sat down and decided to re-open the school because our children had to continue with their studies,” one of the parents told The New Times in an interview. 

According to the school’s head teacher, James Katukane, parents raised money to buy materials like books and chairs but the school is still constrained in a number of ways to function smoothly. 

‘Parents tried their best but we are still teaching children under plastic tents,” he said. "It becomes hard for pupils when it’s hot.”  

Stephen Tumwine, 10, a P.3 pupil at the school said that studying under tents affects their academic concentration. 

‘When it heats up, we feel like leaving the classroom. We cannot pay attention to teachers,’ he said.
