Game one

Marines 75-61 CSK A

Fiston Muhire powered Marines to a thrilling 80-54 win over CSK A on Saturday to hand the club its first ever national basketball play-offs title.

The 24-year-old scored 13 points, eight rebounds and five defensive blocks as the Gisenyi-based club pulled away in the final quarter.

CSK A and Rwanda’s national team shooting forward Gerol Ndugu had a game high 14 points but it just wasn’t enough to stop his side going down three-nil in the best of five final play-off series.

"Well, it was a heck of a win,” Marines coach Janvier Kamanzi said after his team used an early fourth quarter run to take control of the game.

"It was pretty much our game from the starter, we established a 14-point lead after the first two quarters and didn’t look back,” Kamanzi who started handling the club in the second round added.

After the win, Muhire who joined Marines from rivals Espoir at the start of this season gave credit to his team mates.

"We have won the league because we played as a team and with a winning attitude,” he said.

After the game, Marines were presented with a trophy and Frw500.000 in cash prize by Youth, Culture and Sports Minister Joseph Habineza who was chief guest.

APR was also crowned champions in the ladies’ category after a 3-0 game lead over defending champions Rwanda National University (UNR).

The losing finalists in each category (CSK A and UNR) walked away with Frw300.000 in cash prize.
