Rwanda’s constitution declares that person under the age of 21 is a child. Irrespective of which part of the country they live in, they carry the banner for tomorrow’s Rwanda.

In line with this, I commend the efforts by the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF).

They have taken the plight of children seriously and from the evidence we see daily, it’s refreshing to note that, as compared to a two years ago, the number of children on the streets is slowly going down.

That’s not all, young Rwandan girls who have trapped in the cycle of raising babies on their own is being handled as delicately as possible.

We must all understand that no community, let alone person, is perfect. Rather than marginalize these young child mother’s, I would like to encourage every person to give a helping hand.

I call upon more organizations responsible for child rights and women rights to take the plight of these young girl-mothers and children urgently. After all one step taken is a step closer towards finishing a race of 1000steps.

Let’s not turn a deaf ear or a blind eye to these children, but let’s stay united and help one another for a better world; let’s treat every child like our own.
