Ambulance accident kills one, injures two

RUTSIRO —  A road accident involving an ambulance which slipped off the road in Mushubati Sector, Rutsiro district killed one person on Wednesday and left two others with serious injuries. The ambulance with registration number IT 744RB belonging to the association of Genocide widows, Avega, was carrying scholastic materials and an assortment of household property meant for poor and vulnerable beneficiaries who were waiting for their gifts at the district headquarters.

RUTSIRO —  A road accident involving an ambulance which slipped off the road in Mushubati Sector, Rutsiro district killed one person on Wednesday and left two others with serious injuries.

The ambulance with registration number IT 744RB belonging to the association of Genocide widows, Avega, was carrying scholastic materials and an assortment of household property meant for poor and vulnerable beneficiaries who were waiting for their gifts at the district headquarters.

The Rutsiro-bound ambulance which was travelling from Kigali slipped off the road and rolled several times down a slope before stopping in a valley beneath the road.

The driver, who was identified as Jean Paul Nsoro, sustained a broken leg while another lady whose identity could not be established by press time suffered serious head injuries.

Both are currently admitted at Kibuye Hospital in Karongi district.

According to doctors who turned up on a rescue mission, the deceased sustained  major head damage which resulted into her immediate death.

"When the car started rolling off the road one woman tried to jump out through the window and she crushed her head,” Agnes Uwimana, an eye witness said.

Police could not readily establish the exact cause of the accident.
