RWAMAGANA - Ernestine Ingabire, a Catholic nun working in Rwamagana district died instantly and several others were injured when the taxi they were traveling in lost control and swerved off the road.

The accident happened on Monday in Musha, along the Rwamagana-Kigali highway. The injured were admitted at Rwamagana Hospital.

According to one of the survivors, the taxi driver was driving at a high speed when the accident occurred.

"All I can remember is that we were speeding on the highway, the rest of what happened for sure I can’t tell. It was so sudden. I found myself in the hospital bed upon gaining consciousness,” said one of the survivors.

However, Claude Rafiki, the driver of the taxi, who was also seriously injured, said that he suddenly lost control of the vehicle, but he denied the accident was a result of over speeding.

"I must say that it was a case of bad luck,” he said.
Witnesses also blamed the taxi drivers in general, for taking advantage of the rain and over speeding since traffic policemen abandon the roads when it’s raining.
