JEAN Claude Gasigwa is ready to swing it in the ITF/CAT East African money circuit Kigali Leg which rolls off this morning at Umubano Laico.

The country’s tennis ace missed the first leg in Burundi after bruising his left leg during training but during a brief interview with Times Sport yesterday, he said that he was ready to play.

"I’m happy with the way I have handled myself during the injury and hope to have a good tournament in Kigali,” the 27-year-old said.

In the absence of Duncan Mugabe (Uganda) and Burundi leg winner Hassan Ndayishimiye, Francis Rogoi (Kenya) is the top seed while Dieudonne Habiyambere, Olivier Nkunda and Gasigwa are seeded second, third and fourth respectively.

About 59 players are expected to take part in the four-day event. The list also includes; Assani Mrisho (Burundi), Idrissa Ndayisenga (Burundi), Kagiso Kelebiele (Botswana), Gilbert Kibet (Kenya), Rawal Yash (Kenya), Issa Cuma (Burundi), Mutupili Sebastian (Tanzania) and Mosiny Bokang (Botswana).

In Burundi, Rwanda’s best performers were Habiyambere and Nkunda, who reached the doubles’ final only to lose to Rogoi and Ndayishimiye 4-6, 5-7.

It was also a disappointing finish for Rwanda’s Megan Ingabire who could not get past the pair of Joie Keter and Caroline Odour in the final of the women doubles after teaming up with Burundi’s Laura Syori.

Like the Burundi leg, the winners of the Kigali leg will pocket $850 (men) and $650 (women) respectively.
