Kigali City Council is preparing cultural festivals both in Kigali and South Africa ahead of the forthcoming FIFA World Cup this June in South Africa.

According to Kigali City authorities, the festival in Kigali is expected to take place towards the end of March before proceeding to South Africa to stage a similar event.

"A Kigali City Festival is being organized in South Africa before the World Cup whereby Rwandan culture will be exhibited to the outside world…we want to showcase during the festival, a stable and secure Kigali,” City Mayor Aisa Kirabo Kacyira said.

Under the theme, ‘celebrating the African humanity through culture and art and showcasing Africa as an investment destination’’, Kigali City will participate in the festival courtesy of their existing relationship with the South African cities of Durban and Tshwane.

Both Durban and Tshwane are host cities of the World Cup that will be taking place for the first time on the African continent.

"We will further nurture our relationship with our sister cities through showcasing our culture and art as well as tourism and investment opportunities through these events,” Kirabo said.

She informed the attendants that the festival will be a good opportunity to celebrate African humanity through cultural, sports, seminars, concerts and community activities.
