The Africa Development Bank (AfDB) is set to offer Rwf1 billion to Rwanda Electricity Corporation and Rwanda Water and Sanitation Corporation (RECO-RWASCO) to upgrade water pipelines within Kigali City and its outskirts.

This was revealed by the utility’s Managing Director Yves Muyange during an interview.

"Upgrading our pipeline system will help us distribute safe water to our subscribers,” Muyange said.

He said that upgrading of the drainage system is already underway in Kigali City with works already in progress in Nyamirambo and Gikondo.

Muyange said that the ongoing works are in accordance with the city master plan and that they still have other places to upgrade, including channelling water to suburbs like Gahanga in Kicukiro district.

He said that some of the works entailed in the project include putting up new tanks that contain larger volumes of water to replace the existing ones.
