KIST students win ICT quiz awards

Students at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) exhibited a high degree of knowledge in the technology arena over the weekend when they took part in what was dubbed ‘Campus Quiz’ at the school. The Campus quiz was organised by the institute in conjunction with Hardware Unique, a computer importer and wholesaling company.

Students at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) exhibited a high degree of knowledge in the technology arena over the weekend when they took part in what was dubbed ‘Campus Quiz’ at the school.

The Campus quiz was organised by the institute in conjunction with Hardware Unique, a computer importer and wholesaling company.

According to the Guild president of KIST, Francis Karangwa, the major objective of the quiz was to widen the thinking capacity of the students and to inculcate into them the culture of research.

Seven students competed in two categories.
They were first bombarded with a series of questions and from these; the four best students were selected for the second session where the overall winner was selected after another round of questioning.

Irene Mugaruka a second year student in the faculty of Food Science and Technology scooped the top prize after scoring 80 percent and received a laptop.

Trésor Mukunzi came second and won a desktop (flat screen) computer while Deborah Uwera came third walking away with a digital camera and a Nokia i-phone.

Speaking to The New Times, Mugaruka said that a lot of research before going for the quiz was the secret behind her winning.
