RUBAVU - Ninety seven percent of classrooms built to support the 9- year basic education in Rubavu district have been completed.

The district director of education, Mediatrice Mwangage, said 24 primary schools have already admitted senior one students for their first term marking the onset of the newly introduced education program.

"The classes are operational and studies are in progress. We have all 24 schools now teaching as it was planned. The few remaining classes are on finishing stage,” Mwangage said.

Adeline Mukanoheri, the director of Shwemu Primary School, said the problem of classrooms has been solved at her school.

However, she cited lack of text books as one of the remaining challenges. One senior one student, who struggled to speak English when The New Times visited, said it was wonderful for her to study her secondary education at the same school where she finished her primary school education.

"The program is wonderful, I have finished primary and I am studying for my secondary level education at the same school near my home,” Hariette Umwari said.
