Over 40 journalists from different media houses in the country on Friday concluded a training workshop on the new media laws which were recently gazetted.

The four-day workshop that took place at St. Paul Centre in Kigali was organised by the Ministry of Information (MINIFOR).

The training mainly embarked on sensitizing the scribes on the principles and ethics of the media laws in Rwanda and also the structure and functioning of the Media High Council.

During the workshop journalists expressed concerned over the poor reading culture within Rwanda.

"People in Rwanda do not read newspapers therefore this sabotages the growth of our media houses,” said one of the scribes.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Director General in MINIFOR, Ignatius Kabagambe called upon the journalists to improve on their reporting skills in order to attract the attention of the general public and also build confidence in their publications.

Kabagambe urged the press men to efficiently and effectively use the knowledge they have gained on the new media laws.
