RWANDAN champions APR were frustrated to a 2-2 home draw by Angolan’s Recreativo Desportivo do Libolo in the first leg Orange CAF Champions League preliminary clash played yesterday at Nyamirambo stadium.
Midfielder Kabange Twite struck an astounding header on the 18th minute while Malawi international striker Victor Nyirenda scored on his debut on the 83rd minute the second goal for the military side.
Afonso Fuxito came from the bench to net a brace on 54th and 90th minutes of the game to keep the visitors in pole position to advance to the next round ahead of the second leg.
The game which had a huge crowd started in a high mood with the host side leading the proceedings.
Labama Bokota had a good chance to put APR in the lead but goalie Angelo Sebastiao made a fine save to deny the Rwandan international striker after ten minutes.
But eights minutes later, skipper Patrick Mafisango curved in a perfect cross from the left flank for Kabange to head past Angelo.
Then Kabange had to be brought off the pitch as he injured his leg in the process of earning the opener for his team and he was replaced by DR Congo midfielder Bebeto Luamba.
After the break, the military side’s game plan worsened as they continued to make silly mistakes, and the Angolans took full advantage to score their two goals.
Foxito, who came for Garcia Jojo, notched the equalizer for the visitors after Ndayishimiye carelessly punched a ball into the striker’s path.
Dutch coach Paske reacted to Recreativo’s first goal by bringing on Nyirenda for his invisible compatriot Chuikepo Msowoya.
Nyirenda combined well with Bokota in a new striking partnership but Angelo proved a menace as he made three vital saves to keep his team in the game.
With seven minutes left to go, Nyirenda showed his brilliance after gaining possession from a through-pass by Bokota, dribbled past Gomito Cassulle before shooting past Angelo to put the military side in the lead.
However, the lead was short-lived when Foxito punished Omar Hitimana’s mistake to net the equalizers on the 90th minute.
