UN Police Commissioner visits police academy

MUSANZE - The visiting UN Police Commissioner General, Ann Marie Orler, has commended Rwanda National Police for its contribution in international peace keeping operations and hailed their discipline. She said this after visiting the National Police Academy in Musanze district, where she met instructors and police cadets currently under training.

MUSANZE - The visiting UN Police Commissioner General, Ann Marie Orler, has commended Rwanda National Police for its contribution in international peace keeping operations and hailed their discipline.

She said this after visiting the National Police Academy in Musanze district, where she met instructors and police cadets currently under training.

There are over 470 police cadet trainees at the academy.
"The United Nations peace keeping operations department would like to increase  cooperation with the Rwanda government and assess what the department can offer in terms of support, especially training,’’ Orler said.

The Commandant of the National Police Academy, Assistant Commissioner of Police-ACP Charles Shema, said that the academy conducts cadet training courses on UN peace operations.

"Our aim is to build professional police force that is enlightened, effective and accountable to the people,’’ ACP Shema noted.

Orler who was accompanied by another UN Police official, Alexandre Rinaudo, revealed that Rwanda has been invited to send a delegation to the UN Department of Peace Keeping operations for a study tour and learn more on the rules, criteria and the principles of the UN.
