Rwanda has won a seat on the Board of Directors of the Education For all-Fast Tracking Initiative (EFA-FTI), a global partnership between donor and developing countries that ensures accelerated progress towards the Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education.

According to Education Minister Charles Murigande, Rwanda’s entry into the top leadership of this organisation is a big advantage to the country.

Murigande said that the organization has been instrumental in funding countries which show determination in developing education, especially the universal primary education.

Speaking to The New Times, Murigande said that Rwanda has gained so much from the partnership funding in the past and that it is also going to start playing a role in helping other countries which still lag behind in the education sector.

Rwanda first received the FTI funding in 2007 worth $ 70 million and last year also got $35 million.

The grant has been instrumental in supporting teachers’ development, the establishment of a framework for the implementation of decentralised procurement, buying text books and the implementation of the girl child education policy.

Murigande also said that this time Rwanda is set to seek for more funding since the organization gives out grants according to the size of the project that a given country wants to develop.
