URUGWIRO VILLAGE - A 12 member Korean delegation yesterday paid a courtesy call on President Paul Kagame at Urugwiro Village where they discussed strategies of partnering and promoting the development ICTs in the country. The head of the delegation and president of Konkukk University of Korea, Dr. Oh Myung, expressed great enthusiasm in this cooperation saying that any country would wish to partner with Rwanda. “Your country has developed so rapidly and many countries or even people want to participate in its historical development, so do I,” Myung said. Another Korean official, Prof. Jung Suk Ryou also said that forging such a partnership will boost greatly the use of ICT in the country.

Another Korean official, Prof. Jung Suk Ryou also said that forging such a partnership will boost greatly the use of ICT in the country.
"Our delegation is formed under the leadership of Dr. Oh, who is also the father of Korean Information Technology. We (in Korea) started from scratch and know what works and what does not work.”
"Having spent many decades finding out the right combination and applications, we believe that by sharing this knowledge we will assist Rwanda not to go through the same mistakes when fostering ICT development but rather follow the right path to achieve the country’s vision 2020.”
"Rwanda will soon become a knowledge-based economy,” Prof Jung emphasized.
The Minister in charge of ICT in the President’s office, Dr. Ignace Gatare, noted that the team is set to sign a memorandum of understanding to kick-start this partnership, adding that the collaboration will also boost ICT skills for many Rwandans.
Gatare added that during the meeting which was held with President Kagame, a number of issues were discussed, such as new ideas that will strengthen Rwanda’s ICT programs.
"This will be a long term partnership which will also involve taking some of our students to Konkukk University to train there.”
"We also discussed other priorities such as promoting ICT in our health sector. A technical team that will follow progress of this collaboration was also decided upon,” he added.
The team also pledged to promote the success of Rwanda’s one laptop per child programme.
