Time and again, President Paul Kagame has demanded results from leaders, a call he repeated on Tuesday, during a meeting with local leaders.

Much as the President‘s intervention is always important, people in leadership positions should understand that they don’t have to wait for the Head of State to crack the whip for them to fulfil their obligations.

A typical example is the recent standoff that saw hundreds of students stranded at several government-sponsored universities because of mistakes committed within various government institutions.

It called for the intervention of the President to have the students admitted in those universities after confusion and frustration.

The status of the poor hygiene in the town of Rubavu district in the Western Province, which apparently was raised by the President some three years ago, has unfortunately remained unchanged.

These examples are a tip of the iceberg compared to the volume of issues which could have been addressed by the local leaders who instead choose to sleep on the job.

During Tuesday’s event, the President sent a strong message to the Local government officials, that he will not tolerate anything which threatens to slow down the development of this country.
