Floods claim one

NYAMAGABE – Security personnel in Nyamagabe district are searching for a body of 22-year old man, Muzima Maniraho, who allegedly lost his life in last weekend’s floods.According to eye witnesses, the incident happened at about 10 a.m last Sunday. “He tried unsuccessfully to retrieve a woman’s bag that had been swept into Nkungu River by floods during the rain. He was promised Rwf5000 if he retrieved the bag. I saw him drown,” said an eye witness.

NYAMAGABE – Security personnel in Nyamagabe district are searching for a body of 22-year old man, Muzima Maniraho, who allegedly lost his life in last weekend’s floods.

According to eye witnesses, the incident happened at about 10 a.m last Sunday.

"He tried unsuccessfully to retrieve a woman’s bag that had been swept into Nkungu River by floods during the rain. He was promised Rwf5000 if he retrieved the bag. I saw him drown,” said an eye witness.

The Kamegeri Sector Executive Secretary, Faustin Akimana Tebuka, confirmed the incident, saying the river normally floods whenever there is heavy rain.

He however, added that such death due to floods are actually a  rare occurrence in the sector.

"There is no recent death of that kind. It last happened some time ago on Mwogo River and we warned our residents to be careful whenever it rains heavily,” he said.
