FORMER Amavubi head coach Ratomir Dujkovic is the latest name on the six-man short-list of candidates to become the new coach of Nigeria’s national team.

Last Friday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced the demotion of Super Eagles coach Shaibu Amodu.

He’ll now oversee the home-based Nigeria team, which is shaping up for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Other names in the frame include two Dutchmen Guus Hiddink, currently coach of Russia and Bayern Munich head coach Louis Van Gaal, former England caretaker manager Peter Taylor, Bruno Metsu, who coached Senegal to the 2002 World Cup quarter-finals, and Hassan Shehata, who recently led Egypt to their third successive Africa Cup of Nations title in Angola.

Dujkovic gained international acclaim when he led Rwanda into the 2004 African Cup of Nations for the first time.

Ironically, Rwanda qualified at the expense of Ghana - nation whose national team he would soon take over and lead to 2006 World Cup - in a memorable qualifier in Kigali on July 6, 2003.

He has since handled China’s U-23 football team and Serbia’s U-21 side.

Dujkovic is favoured alongside Shehata, 60 to take over Amodu whose team’s style of play, tactics and key decision-making were all questioned in Angola.

NFF have until the end of the month to announce a new coach.
