The 43-year-old is one of eight assistant African referees who will officiate at the football showpiece. The Rwandan will partner with the South African duo of Jerome Damon (Centre) and Enock Molefe.
CELESTIN Ntagungira a.k.a Abegga is in high spirits after confirmation that he will officiate at this year’s Fifa World Cup in South Africa.
The 43-year-old is one of eight assistant African referees who will officiate at the football showpiece.
The Rwandan will partner with the South African duo of Jerome Damon (Centre) and Enock Molefe.
The list, which also has four centre referees includes; Mohamed Benouza (Algeria), Nasser Abdel Nadi (Egypt), Maamar Chabane (Algeria), Koman Coulibaly (Mali), Redouane Achick (Morocco), Manuel Candido (Angola), Eddy Allen Maillet (Seychelles), Evarist Menkouande (Cameroon), and Bechir Hassani (Tunisia).
In the past, Abegga has officiated at the 2006 World Cup, 2008 Olympic Games, 2008 Africa Nations Cup and most recently, the 2010 Orange Nations Cup in Angola.
At 40, Mali’s Coulibaly is one of the most experienced referees on the continent after officiating at five CAN tournaments as well as last year’s U-17 and U-20 World Cups.
The twelve will now undergo medical tests in Zurich from February 22-25 before heading to Las Palmas (Spain) for cooper tests.
