RUHANGO-Security in Ruhango last week thwarted attempted robbery by four armed robbers in Rwogo cell, Kabagari sector.

The robbery was reportedly foiled after residents alerted local leaders about the suspicious movements of the group of four men on the Buhanda-Kigali route.

The four suspects identified as Augustine Hategikimana, Obedi Nzamurambaho, Viatory Munyankinko and Fabien Nzaramba, all residents of Gitwe-Bweramana allegedly attempted to rob business men in the area.

They are currently being held at Gitarama Police station pending prosecution. Security officials say the group was armed with guns described as ooze model and knives at the time of arrest.

"Residents begun suspecting the group after it was sighted in the nearby bushes somehow keenly watching the number of traders heading to the Buhanda Market,” security officials said.

The officers added that the habit of robbing traders is common in the area but security has been beefed up with help of community policing and residents play a big role in curbing down acts of robbery.

After the arrest, the four men reportedly confessed the intension to rob a pick-up that was heading to Karongi district but denied allegations of previous robbery of traders in October, this year.

Sources say that some among the four are former soldiers.
