KIGALI - Rwanda’s four year National Strategic Plan on HIV/Aids and the fight against Tuberculosis (TB), which is estimated to cost over US$887, has been boosted by the US-funded health initiative, Global Fund (GF), to the tune of US $431m. Speaking to The New Times, the Executive Secretary of the National Aids Control Commission (CNLS), Dr. Anita Asiimwe, confirmed the development and revealed that negotiations between the government and the GF are still ongoing.

Speaking to The New Times, the Executive Secretary of the National Aids Control Commission (CNLS), Dr. Anita Asiimwe, confirmed the development and revealed that negotiations between the government and the GF are still ongoing.
According to the plan, $389m will be spent on the fight against HIV/Aids while $42m will be allocated to the fight against TB.
The donation was based on its quality, being Human Rights and evidence-based, and the involvement of civil society and development partners in the fight against the scourge.
According to the plan, government and external donors, UN agencies, Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the German Technical Corporation (GTZ) among others, will contribute US$ 527.5m as part of the US$ 887m total budget.
It is estimated that by 2012, HIV/AIDS prevalence will have reduced by half. It currently stands at 3 percent.
