Work on Karongi-Rubavu road commences

KARONGI – Residents of Bwishyura sector in Karongi district yesterday embarked on communal work to fix the Karongi- Rubavu highway. Led by district leaders, the residents joined hands to fill potholes and clear the drainage system to prevent water that was damaging the road every time it rained.

KARONGI – Residents of Bwishyura sector in Karongi district yesterday embarked on communal work to fix the Karongi- Rubavu highway.

Led by district leaders, the residents joined hands to fill potholes and clear the drainage system to prevent water that was damaging the road every time it rained.

According the District Mayor Bernard Kayumba, the exercise which will rotate through all the sectors in the district is meant to last for a maximum period of two weeks.

"We are expecting that in the next two weeks all residents in the district should have participated at least once in community work in different designated projects,” Kayumba told The New Times.

He added that after each session a short meeting will be held in which residents are to be sensitized about government development policies.

"The residents will be encourage to adopt developmental projects like improved methods of farming, family planning and the now obligatory saving scheme- Umurenge SACCO,” he said.
