NYAGATARE/RUSIZI – The completion of classes which are meant to support the 9-year-basic education in Nyagatare district, has been delayed due to the lack of materials.

When The New Times visited one of the sites at Rurenge Secondary School on Thursday, students were offering a helping hand to the construction workers. 

‘We are helping them to see if we can occupy these classrooms by next week,’ one of the students told The New Times. 

The school’s head teacher, Karangwa Kageruka, said that the support from the students will help speed up the remaining work.

‘We have decided that students help in cleaning the school compound, arranging chairs so that they can start classes. We expect classes to start next week,’ he said.

Kageruka also said they were short of paint, window panes and blackboards and have approached the district for help.
There are nine classroom blocks being constructed at Rurenge secondary school expected to accommodate close to 150 students. 

Both Rukomo and Nyagatare sector are also in short of materials to complete the classrooms and according to the District Mayor, the materials should reach the schools by next week.
