Kigali is off from a busy weekend of music and comedy.
You can’t say that you had a boring weekend in a town that hosted one of Africa’s finest comedians like South Africans Loyiso Gola and Celeste Ntuli, Uganda’s Patrick Salvador, Burundian Kigingi and Ghananian OB Amponsah who all met on the same stage during the 2022 Seka Fest held Sunday, December 4, at Kigali Convention Center.
Hosted by Arthur Nkusi, who is the brains behind the festival, the comedians were joined by Rwanda’s homegrown talents Patrick Rusine, Fally Merci and his upcoming comedians from Gen-Z Comedy.
The festival kicked off Saturday when renowned Rwandan comedian Diogene Ntarindwa, commonly known as Atome or Gasumuni, owned a one-man show on his return to stage after almost three years without performing for Rwandans.
Some either saw their ribs cracking from the comedian’s funny jokes or they rushed to Canal Olympia, Rebero where iconic DJs Emery, Mike, Bisoso, RY, Karim and Khadir turned the place a home of Old School music as they entertained hundreds of party goers during the second edition of Odies Music Festival.
Only the music of the 1970s-2010s was played at the festival which is quickly attracting attention from music enthusiasts who attend it to relive the best moments of their early partying time.
From music to fashion, everything was ‘Old School’ to keep the event a relevant one.
Everyone at the festival was dressed in old school clothes as they knew the best dressed would be rewarded. And, in the end, it was comedian Clapton Kibonge and culture music artist Cyusa who emerged the best dressed individuals in the 70s and 80s respectively. Each of them walked home with an award.
