MUHANGA - The Minister of Agriculture, Agnes Kalibata, has urged farmers and traders to utilise the e-Soko product in order to easily access market prices and information.
Kalibata made the call at the product launch held at Gitarama market, on Wednesday.
The launch was conducted in conjunction with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB IT), the institution behind the new initiative.
"The e-Soko product is the first of its kind and it’s intended to enable farmers and traders to access information on agricultural products in markets. We encourage everyone to use it” she said.
She noted that e-Soko was created to address the problems of lack of information on current prices of agricultural products and to minimize unnecessary price hikes for consumers.
Residents will be able to access market prices for particular products in 41 markets countrywide through phone messages, email or access to the e-Soko website (www.e-soko.gov.rw).
According to an official from RDB, information flow offers a basis of improving business and trade and the program is aimed at facilitating the use of information communication and technology appropriately.
The launch was also attended by the Minister in charge of ICT in the president’s office, Senators, the World Bank country representative and other dignitaries.
