Students of College Ingenzi, the only city school not allowed to reopen due to its inadequate hygiene standards, are in the cold after failing to commence their studies when the new academic term began on Monday.

The fate of the students at the school is not yet decided as the concerned authorities have not yet come out with a clear solution for the students.

According to the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs in Gasabo District, Narcisse Ndgijimana, the district is awaiting communication from the Ministry of Education concerning the issue.

College Ingenzi is situated in Jabana Sector, and is a privately owned school.

"We are waiting for a response from the Ministry as to whether we are going to integrate these students in other schools, but we have not heard from the ministry,” said Ndagijimana.

When contacted, the Minister in charge of Primary and Secondary schools, Dr. Mathias Harebamungu, said that the issue is supposed to be resolved by Gasabo District since the issue concerns a private school.

"The district is supposed to find the students other places where they can study since the school is directly under the custodian of the district,” said the Minister.

However, he said that when Gasabo contacted them for help, they told the district to give the Ministry a report on the issue which they delayed to deliver.

College Ingenzi and eight more schools had been black-listed for poor unhygienic standards by Kigali City Council health inspection team.
