RWANDA has fallen five places to 107th in the latest Fifa/Coca Cola world rankings released on Wednesday in Zurich, Switzerland.

For African countries, the Africa Cup of Nations had a major impact on the rankings as Egypt climbed 14 places to tenth place after successfully defending their CAN title in Angola.
The Pharaohs are now Africa’s number one team. Not only is this Egypt’s highest placing ever, it’s also the second highest ever by an African team after Nigeria placed fifth in 1994.

Nigeria moved seven places to 15th and is now Africa’s second best placed team in the ranking.

Egypt beat Ghana’s Black Stars 1-0 in last Sunday’s final to win the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

It’s their third consecutive victory in the competition and their seventh in total.

Other big movers in the Fifa ranking are Ghana who moved seven places to 27th and are now fifth on the African table.

Africa’s other World Cup bound teams are in a sorry state. Cameroon dropped nine places and is now 20th in the world, while Ivory Coast and Algeria fell six and five places respectively.

Ranked 107th, Rwanda comes before Tanzania and Sudan who lie on 108th and 109th respectively.

Uganda at 74th position is ahead of World Cup hosts South Africa, Malawi and Angola, who are in 81st, 82nd and 88th positions respectively.

Overall, Spain continues to occupy top spot ahead of Brazil and the Netherlands
