Society debate; White or red meat?

Red meat is such a blessing There are lots of things we let into our mind and believe, yet their only essence is to deprive us of the mouth-watering life, we are created to enjoy. Imagine this red/white meat myth, which generally calls for all the beef to be ignored, including the ever so tasty brochette. People have evolved the meaning of meat from being ‘any edible animal flesh’ to fat-phobia gimmicks that lack a lot of scientific fact.

Red meat is such a blessing

There are lots of things we let into our mind and believe, yet their only essence is to deprive us of the mouth-watering life, we are created to enjoy. Imagine this red/white meat myth, which generally calls for all the beef to be ignored, including the ever so tasty brochette.

People have evolved the meaning of meat from being ‘any edible animal flesh’ to fat-phobia gimmicks that lack a lot of scientific fact.

Meat is now annoyingly categorized according to its color, either red or white, white meat as the only healthy option. As a matter of fact, the pork industry is so frightened of this misguided health-crazed conception that they have decided to term pork as "the new white meat.”

From the little biology I know, red meat is red because of myoglobin, an iron containing protein that transfers oxygen from the blood to the muscles of the animal.

This red color does not determine the underlying fat content of animal meat; therefore, someone eating only "white” chicken drumsticks still has the same chances of raising their cholesterol level, like the person gobbling a brochette.

People believe that they gained weight from eating a lot of red meat, yet in the real essence, there exists stronger factors that determine weight gain such as genetic formation, sex, stress and even personality.

Our beliefs about meat, which have in turn driven our diet behavior, are often influenced by socio-cultural factors, advertising and misinformation.

Unlike the African cattle which are reared naturally, cattle in the West are fed on chemicals or injected with growth hormones.

No wonder the West is bothered about the red meat they eat because it is mostly not the natural red meat that is recommended, which we have in plenty around the corner. An African shouldn’t be influenced by the kind of diet meant for Americans.

It is argued that humans are in fact natural meat eaters (I testify). This means that cutting meat out of our diets could spell a health disaster.

Researchers say that we have bacteria in the stomach meant to digest meat, meaning that if we don’t eat meat, these bacteria would be lying idle, making it easy for us to contract disease.

Furthermore, red meat has very important nutrients such as zinc and iron, which are very essential in building a healthy skin and a strong immune system.

No other food you may eat is as rich in these minerals as red meat. And need I mention that meat is the best source of protein?

I have also figured that these days, everything you may do is said to exhibit a concern over your health. Some people say that using a fork to eat can cause you cancer, yet we were taught that eating with hands can be harmful to our health since finger nails keep germs.

Every now and then, we are meant to be worried over what we eat and how we eat it.

To me, it is just a waste of time trying to worry over what or what may not kill you. If you’re salivating over that juicy meat stew, but are too afraid to have it, you’re not just depriving yourself of some rich nutrients but also a very delicious taste you will never get from a thousand beans and carrots.

Excessive consumption of fat can cause a few health risks, but not to the levels that some people choose to hype. If red meat is dangerous, so is white meat. And as I mentioned earlier meat color doesn’t determine the fat content.

If it did, you can take a wild guess at the color of fat. Red meat has never been poison; it is indeed a nutritious and delicious food.
