KARONGI – Students going back to school for the new school term are stranded in Karongi district because of transport bottlenecks along the Kigali-Karongi highway.
Two travel agencies that normally plied the route pulled out two days ago and the students seem to have felt the impact most.

"I have been here since 6 am but there is no hope of getting a vehicle to take me to school. Home is also very far from here, I can’t go back,” Richard Ndahayo, a student heading to Gitarama, Muhanga district said.

Most of the affected students are those travelling to the countryside. Even the government owned Onatracom buses have been overwhelmed.

However, an official from Onatracom assured the students to worry, saying they will do their best to ensure that students reach their schools.

"We are determined to work until very late in the evening if that’s the only solution for students to get to their schools,” the official said.
