Former RAC Chief: Dismas Kayibanda

DISMAS Kayibanda has been named as one of the stewards for the upcoming Kobil rally of Tanzania.

The race, which also opens the 2010 Africa Rally Championship (ARC) calendar, is slated for February 19-21 in Dar es Salaam and Kayibanda, who recently stepped down as Rwanda Automobile Club president after eight years at the helm confirmed the development after receiving a notification email from FIA’s head of sporting regulation department Gerald Richard.

During the three-day event, Kayibanda will work closely with Zambia’s Richard Leeke (observer), Olafur Gudmundsson (chairman of the stewards) and the rally’s technical director Viren Goricha. Zambia’s speedster Mohamed Essa and Zimbabwe’s Greg Stead are the latest drivers to register for the rally.

Unlike Stead, Essa will be making a second appearance in the Tanzanian classic after his debut last year where he dropped out.

The rally’s reigning champion Jamie Whyte from Zimbabwe, his predecessor Muna Singh and South Africa’s Lola and Megan Verlaque are also in the fray. Other big names include Uganda’s duo Emma Kato and Jas Mangat, who finished second in 2009.

The pair has been a regular entrant since 2006.
