DESPITE a glamorous short spell as head coach of the APR men’s volleyball team, Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye has been replaced by Sammy Olimwingi.

The Kenyan now takes over from APR ladies head coach Paul Bitok, who has been a caretaker coach since Ndayikengurukiye’s indefinite suspension last season.

Ndayikengurukiye, also a former APR and national team captain was suspended after featuring for Nonas- a select side in last year’s Coupe du Rwanda.

"We have suspended him because he not only defied the tournament rules but also didn’t inform us,” the club’s vice president Jean Pierre Kayumba said at the time.

During his short spell, the 34-year-old led APR to six trophies, including an unprecedented league treble to make him one of the most successful coaches in the club’s history.

Kayumba yesterday confirmed to Times Sport that Olimwingi was already in the country but did not divulge any other details.

"For now, what’s important is for you to know that he (Olimwingi) is here. You will know more once everything is finalised.”

Meanwhile, the club has also beefed up its squad with two Kenyan internationals; Edward Koloma and Chris Kwinta. This year’s league is scheduled to throw off on February 21.
