MUSANZE — Braving heavy rains, newly-elected members of the Rwanda Patriotic Front held their first general assembly praising achievement and setting course for the following year.

Professor Karangwa Chrisologue, national party president, asked members to be committed in implementing the goals and the objectives as declared by the party manifesto.

"Now is time for action.

If we have a common objective why should many things remain undone?” Karangwa said.
He further warned against corruption, saying that it’s a source of injustice which RPF fought and overpowered.

RPF district chairman Celestin Karabayinga called upon party members be part of all the activities without considering their own interests but the benefits of all the members and the country as a whole. For the ‘greater good.’

"To make RPF an engine of development is visible because the entrusted leadership has the capacity to deliver and this calls for everyone to have a role to play in the commitments of the party now in order to prepare ground for winning future elections,” Karabayinga said

Top party priorities include poverty reduction, which they aim to bring to down to 20 per cent levels within 10 years.
Currently, statistics show 48 per cent of the population in serious poverty.

Members were given an opportunity to raise questions and suggestions geared towards fighting poverty especially deep in the rural areas .

They proposed bee-keeping, modern farming with newer seeds, and men accessing family-planning methods of birth control instead of discouraging them.
