HUYE – Police in Ngoma district are holding two juveniles in connection with the death of a 12-year old boy in Tumba Sector last Thursday.

The deceased, only identified as Twagiramukiza, was reportedly killed after getting involved in a fight with playmates. A stone that hit him on the head is believed to have led to his death.

The father of the main suspects acknowledged that the boys were involved in disputes and that he had urged them against fighting. He ruled out misunderstandings between the two as the cause of the fight.

"I had earlier on, in the morning, warned the children against fighting, but at around 4 PM, while playing a board game with the deceased’s father, we were shocked to learn of the untimely death,” he said.

However, residents in Rugarama village said the death scene was a popular hangout for idle youths who often engage in fist fights.

Jeannette Niyongira, the Executive Secretary of Mpare Cell, denied knowledge of the existence of idle teenagers in the Cell.

"Such acts are new in this area. We encourage parents to play a more active role in controlling the movement of their children, especially during school holidays,” she said.
