The World Cup is not only being enjoyed by people who travelled to watch it in Qatar, the host nation of the tournament. The moments that the tournament has produced since it opened on November 20 has been celebrated by people across the world and Rwanda is no exception.
As things stand, some teams were sent packing their bags back home while others are playing the knockout stages.
Times Sport takes a look at Kigali’s top World Cup fan zones taking the city by storm:
Biryogo Car Free Zone
Tea and chapati have become a food tradition for people going to hang out at Biryogo’s free zone whose atmosphere is in its nature a whole vibe that no one would wish to miss out on, especially during evening hours.
The free zone now looks more vibrant, entertaining and busier in the evenings since the World Cup started with hundreds queuing the free zone street to watch their favorite teams on giant screens taken at the area every evening to add the spark of football entertainment in Biryogo.
Two mobile giant screens are connected at both ends of the free zone. With the two screens, the World Cup looks like a live event for the spectators.
Boogaloo Fan Zone (Mundi Center)
Arguably the most popular World Cup fan zone in town, Mundi Center has become home of football during the Qatar World Cup campaign.
Located in Rwandex, precisely at Boogaloo Lounge, the place is known for its marching and fascinating atmosphere during the matches.
The place is, from the entrance, decorated with national flags of countries participating at the World Cup while people walk in dressed in jerseys of the nations that they support...just to ensure relevance of the tournament.
While people were used to going to the place to hang out, Boogaloo has now become more than that, it is where football meets fun.
Camp Kigali Fan Zone
Local brewer SKOL designed a special World Cup fan zone at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village as an occasion for the brewer to celebrate football and connect with its clients.
While a giant screen is set up at the venue to help football enthusiasts watch the World Cup live, some fun games are also played on the sidelines with prizes up for grabs.
For instance, the brewer set up PlayStation at the venue for people to compete where winners are given a brand new PlayStation.
Another fun game set up at the venue is Kicker. People have been competing during the campaign and the winner will be announced during the World Cup final where the winning contestant will be facilitated to watch the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in January in Algeria.
