MUHANGA – The Gahogo Gacaca Court in Muhanga district last Friday ordered the arrest of nine residents for allegedly concealing information on genocide activities that took place at the Nyabisindu Adventist Church.

The residents, who mostly include church members, are accused of deliberately withholding information - contrary to the Gacaca laws.

The development comes days after several remains of genocide victims were discovered in front of the church premises.

According to the judges, this was a new measure which they hope will compel more people to volunteer evidence.

Court president, Ildephonse Ndagijimana said, "The information had been concealed and none of the residents was willing to speak out.”

He added that court was still gathering more information on the genocide that took place at the church premises to facilitate pending trials.

Ndagijimana singled out one case involving the death of Eleazar Mpumuje, whose remains were found at the church premises. Pastor, Pedaie Ntihanabayo, of the same church is implicated in Mpumuje’s death

If found guilty, the nine suspects risk spending up to six months in prison.
