The U-15 boys’ national cricket team has been boasted with Frw1.7million from Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR) ahead of the ICC/ACA East African youth tournament.

The event is scheduled for December 9-12 in the Kenyan capital Nairobi where the Rwandan side is only making its debut.

Handing over the cheque to RCA, Rwanda’s cricket governing body, BCR’s projects officer Sandra Uwera said that the bank was proud to be associated with cricket and Rwandan sports in general.

"The sponsorship is a sign that we are keen on helping sports in any way we can.

This support is a sign of a long term relationship between the bank and RCA,” the official continued.

After receiving the cheque, RCA’s president Charles Haba said, "The package has come at a time when we needed it most and we are looking forward to reaping big from this relationship (between RCA and BCR).”

"When one has a partner like BCR, they are surely talking,” Haba excitedly added.

Besides BCR, the International Cricket Council and Africa Cricket Association have also thrown their weight behind the team.

ICC will foot the team’s accommodation and meal expenses while ACA has contributed $1000 (about 5.4M) to the team’s trip.

The tournament has attracted four countries including Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and the hosts Kenya.
