President Paul Kagame’s act of intervention to ensure sponsorship of university students who had missed out, is indeed a clear sign of not only good governance, but also caring leadership.

Hundreds of students had complained about the unfairness in the selection process of students to be sponsored by SFAR.

The country’s development depends mainly on our ability to educate the youth to develop the next generation of leaders in all sectors of society; public and private.

No efforts, therefore, should be spared to ensure that the children of this country acquire quality education.

The recent events surrounding the students’ dilemma should be a wakeup call to institutions like SFAR to establish a more transparent system that clearly spells out the criteria for government sponsorship.

It is not right that our children should spend sleepless nights camping at school compounds waiting for some kind of response to their admission problem, when the issue should have been resolved in time.

Thanks to the President for bringing smiles on the faces of many who had thought their education dreams had faded.
