NYAGATARE – Hillside Day and Boarding Primary School in Matimba sector, Nyagatare district, on Thursday awarded several pupils for their outstanding performance in last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

The best students received an assortment of prizes including suit cases, school bags and basins.

Out of 80 candidates who sat for PLE at Hillside, 73 passed with distinctions, while seven others got satisfaction. The school was 8th nationwide.

Two of their pupils were among the top 20 in the country. 
Edward Kamuhanda, from Kayonza district, who emerged the best PLE candidate in the Eastern Province and 16th best country wide, attributed his performance to hard work and advice from parents and teachers.

‘I attribute my performance to hard work and respecting my teachers. I am so delighted to have received a prize as the best pupil and I advise my fellow children to always feel free to ask their teachers and work hard,’ he said.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony, the school’s head teacher, George Karenzi, attributed their excellence to qualified and hardworking teachers.

He congratulated pupils for bringing their school to the limelight and promised more efforts in registering a better position in the following year.

Another official, Col. Thadeo Gashumba, hailed the school’s performance, promising to do all it takes for the school to maintain the good performance.

‘I thank students for performing well and particularly their teachers who spent sleepless nights to make our dream come true.”

"I promise and I will make sure, through your collaboration, that this year’s performance doubles,’ Gashumba said, urging parents to play a big role in modeling their children’s education.
