Child drowns in a river

NYAGATARE – A body of a ten-year-old boy was on Wednesday found close to the shore after gone missing while swimming in a river, in Rwempesha sector, Nyagatare district. Area residents said the deceased, Muhoza Mugisha, was discovered a day after he drowned while fetching water.

NYAGATARE – A body of a ten-year-old boy was on Wednesday found close to the shore after gone missing while swimming in a river, in Rwempesha sector, Nyagatare district.

Area residents said the deceased, Muhoza Mugisha, was discovered a day after he drowned while fetching water.

However, Rwempasha sector Executive Secretary, Claude Mushabe, said that the deceased died after swimming for long hours of in the river, known as Umuvumba, that feeds into Akagera River.

‘He had gone with his fellow children to swim on Tuesday morning. As they kept on swimming, the young boy succumbed to the waves in the river which eventually led to his drowning,’ Mushabe said.

Following the news of the incident, Police and area residents mounted a search for the boy.

‘Residents intervened immediately and spent the whole night searching for the body. They swam the whole night and discovered the boy’s body later onj ust 100 metres away,” Mushabe said.
