UGANDA - The final resting places in Uganda where remains of the victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi are in their final stages of completion.

This was disclosed yesterday by Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Maj Gen Frank Mugambage, during a telephone interview.

According to Mugambage, the works are 90 percent complete and will be ready within the next two months.

"Our target is to complete the burial sites before the 16th commemoration of the Genocide,” said the envoy.

He added that the bodies of nearly 11,000 victims that were buried in makeshift graves in Uganda will receive a proper reburial once works on these new sites are complete.

The bodies which were washed downstream to Uganda, are buried in different mass graves in Masaka, Rakai and Mpigi districts in Uganda that lie on the shores of Lake Victoria.

During the Genocide, victims were dumped in Nyabarongo and Kagera rivers and washed down into Lake Victoria and ended up floating on different landing sites of the lake.
