• Summit to discuss ICT development

KIGALI - Foreign Affairs Minister, Louise Mushikiwabo, yesterday travelled to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to attend the Ordinary Session of the Summit of the African Union (AU).

This 14th Ordinary Session of the AU Summit is being held under the theme "Information and Communication Technologies in Africa: Challenges and Prospects for Development.”

The Summit which will discuss development of ICTs on the continent, among many issues, officially kicked off on Monday and is scheduled to end Tuesday next week, with a meeting of Heads of State and Government.

President Kagame is scheduled to attend this summit and speak on ICTs development in Rwanda.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs who constitute the Executive Council of the continental body will also consider a report of the Commission on the climate change negotiations in the 15th Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held December last year in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Highlights during the summit include the launch of the new

AU flag and the continental scientific award ceremony for two successful African scientists.

The AU Assembly will also adopt the budget for the 2010 financial year and appoint new members of the Peace and Security Council (PSC). 

The African Heads of State will also consider several reports including one on the Peace and Security Council and the state of peace and security in Africa.
