Organisers of the ceremony recently held a special meeting to discuss promoting the cover of REM’s ‘Everybody Hurts’, according to The Sun. It is thought that the move was unusual as the night’s line-up is usually finalised well ahead of time.
A source told the newspaper: "A special production meeting was called to reconsider the running order to include the song. It’s something that has never happened before. But the events in Haiti have made everybody sit up and take notice.”
Brits bosses reportedly hope that the song’s lineup of stars - who include Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams, Take That and Kylie Minogue - could perform live on the night. If this plan fails to come to fruition, a video is expected to be shown instead.
The Brit Awards will take place at London’s Earls Court on February 16.
