Law makers and various organs of the East African Community (EAC) will tomorrow start a five-day meeting in Bujumbura, Burundi, to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the Common Market Protocol. In an interview with The New Times yesterday, EAC Affairs Minister Monique Mukaruliza said that the Inter-Parliamentary Relations Seminar, commonly referred to as ‘Nanyuki series’, will focus on giving regional parliamentarians a deeper insight into the protocol.

In an interview with The New Times yesterday, EAC Affairs Minister Monique Mukaruliza said that the Inter-Parliamentary Relations Seminar, commonly referred to as ‘Nanyuki series’, will focus on giving regional parliamentarians a deeper insight into the protocol.
"It will be about reflecting on the modalities and ways of overcoming challenges of the protocol. We shall all together look at how it will be implemented,” she said.
A total of 80 Members of Parliament (15 from each partner state of the EAC and 5 from the Zanzibar House of Representatives), all East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) members and Ministers for EAC Affairs will participate in the seminar.
Mukaruliza added that during the seminar, there will be presentations on the role of the East African Court (EACJ) in the successful implementation of the protocol.
