Nyarugenge Intermediate Court on Friday acquitted the founder and chief executive of Rwanda Inspiration Back-up Dieudonné Ishimwe, alias Prince Kid.

Rwanda Inspiration Back-up was the company organising and running Miss Rwanda contests.

Prince Kid, who was arrested early this year, was facing three charges including; soliciting or offering sexual favours, harassment, and rape.

Delivering the ruling, the presiding judge said the prosecutors failed to present compelling evidence to the court to secure a conviction of the Miss Rwanda organiser on any of the alleged offences.

Court ordered his immediate release from prison.

The alleged offences involved former Miss Rwanda contestants across different years.

In delivering the verdict, the presiding judge said that the prosecution failed to prove the authenticity of various accounts made by the witnesses and that the testimonies against Ishimwe carried contradictions.

In addition, the judge said that while re-examining witnesses, they confirmed that they indeed wrote a joint letter indicating that Ishimwe did not in any way sexually harass them during or after participating in the beauty contest.

Part of the evidence presented to the court by the prosecution was an audio recording of Ishimwe’s conversation with the current Miss Rwanda of which the bench ruled that there were no elements in the conversation that constituted a crime.

Ishimwe has been detained since April 26 and his trial started in May.
