KAYONZA – The Governor of the Eastern Province, Dr. Ephraim Kabaija, has called for a tough stance against cattle theft in the province that has left residents worried. 
He said this while reacting to the latest incident, where 43 head of cattle belonging to  Tisiani Muhirwa, were stolen from his farm in Mucucu village in Murundi sector.
The Governor called upon law enforcers to be more vigilant.
"We have put in place regulations that must be observed by everyone. No single cow is supposed to be moved from one point to another without authorisation from a recognised veterinary officer. Cows moving to markets must bear identification tags,” he said.

Dr. Justin M. Zimurinda of RARDA also reiterated the fact that movement of livestock needs to be streamlined.

"We need to work as a team for the purposes of getting a solution. This entails also cooperation from our colleagues from the Kigali abattoir. We need such colleagues to assist with streamlining this process,” he said.

Zimurinda however, said that he is going to sensitise all stake holders to be more vigilant, so that the increased cases of cattle theft are checked.

Muhirwa, whose cows were stolen, says he has received clues suggesting that his cattle were driven off to Tanzania.
