RUBAVU – The re-evaluation of local government employees in Rubavu, Nyabihu and Ngororero districts in the Western Province will start in two weeks’ time, the provincial governor Celestin Kabahizi said.

The exercise follows complaints of irregularities in the first phase of evaluation which was conducted last year. The governor assured the former employees not to worry, saying those who were unfairly dismissed would be reinstated.

"We have formed a panel made of public service commission members and the provincial authorities including myself to analyse only the documents of the sacked employees who wrote claiming to have been victimised by the evaluation,” Kabahizi said.

"We are going to reinstate those who were unlawfully dismissed and those occupying their offices will be fired since they occupy the offices illegally.”

Gédéon Ruboneza, the Ngorerero Mayor welcomed the Governor’s move. "We are prepared to receive the panel, and we don’t have any problem about the governor’s idea of reinstating those who were fired unfairly.”

The Nyabihu Mayor Damascène Ndagijimana, insisted that the evaluation in his district was based on properly laid out guidelines and there was no victimisation.

However, Rubavu Mayor, Pierre Célestin Twagirayezu had earlier told this paper that he is opposed to the idea of reinstating the sacked officials.

"We shall discuss this issue with the Governor and his panel, frankly speaking it is not simple however it is not entirely impossible,” Twagirayezu wondered.
