GAKENKE – Groupe Scolaire Saint Jérôme-Janja on Tuesday received assorted donations including 30 computers donated by a German school, through a mutual cooperation known as Jumellage. According to Alphonse Twizerimana, the school’s director, the mutual cooperation programme which has been ongoing for quite some time has boosted the school’s performance both in academics and sports.
GAKENKE – Groupe Scolaire Saint Jérôme-Janja on Tuesday received assorted donations including 30 computers donated by a German school, through a mutual cooperation known as Jumellage.
According to Alphonse Twizerimana, the school’s director, the mutual cooperation programme which has been ongoing for quite some time has boosted the school’s performance both in academics and sports.
"This will support our efforts to fight illiteracy, which is the biggest challenge we have,” Twizerimana said.
He disclosed that a special adult education program would be started at the school this year, and the adult students would get computer lessons as well.
The district Mayor, P. Damien Hakizayezu, challenged the local teachers to increase their efforts for the purposes of fighting illiteracy which is prevalent in the area. St. Jerome Janja emerged as the best performing school in the district with over 70 students out of 120 students who passed in the first division, in last years’ O’ Level exams.
