Reading yesterdays issue of this publication, I was taken aback by the slowness of the EAC decision making mechanism. According to the paper, which quoted the Minister for EAC Affairs, Monique Mukaruliza, the East African Community  has plans to issue a single Investor’s Visa in the region. Great I thought.

When I continued reading the story, I found out that the President, Paul Kagame, had last year advocated for the region to have a single EAC tourist visa which would enable tourists move freely within the five EAC partner states. Sadly, I didn’t read anything about that initiative.

What I gather from the article is that there hasn’t been a decision on the issue of a single tourist visa. And it’s been a year.

So, I’m left wondering, if the simple tourist visa is taking forever to come into being, how can we expect the investor visa to be decided upon quickly?

I think that the entire law changing process in the EAC should get accelerated. That is, if we actually are serious about the EAC.
