PUGILISTS have been challenged to up their training ahead of a possible contest with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in March.
The call made by the technical director of the national boxing association (Raba) Kananura Gashuji comes after the CNLS sponsored boxing tournament which was held last Sunday at Amahoro’s Indoor Stadium.
Gashuji, who also doubles as the national team’s boxing coach noted that the performance on Sunday was not up there.
"It’s obvious that the boxers need more time in the ring. Most of them looked rusty during the tournament,” he stressed.
The tournament, which featured thirteen bouts, three of which were cadets, was highlighted by two technical knockouts (TKO) in the super lightweight (64Kg) category.
Some of the boxers earmarked for the March boxing contest include Maurice Bikorimana super welterweight (69Kg), Michel Gashumba featherweight (57Kg), and Jean Marie Nsengiyumva middleweight (75Kg).
